Manchester City morning news: Pellegrini sweating over Kompany fitness, Nasri's Chelsea message

A round up of news stories this morning about Manchester City.

Manchester City will give captain Vincent Kompany every chance of being fit to face Sunderland.

The Belgian defender hobbled off towards the end of the 3-0 win against Southampton last weekend.

“We continue with the three same players injured – Kolarov, Silva and Dzeko. With Kompany, we’ll see tomorrow,” said manager Manuel Pellegrini.

Kompany is also being tipped to miss the Champions League decider against AS Roma.

City have given themselves a chance of making it through to the last 16 of the European competition with a dramatic win against Bayern Munich in their last game.

Manchester City star Samir Nasri has stressed the importance of the side staying in the title race over the Christmas and New Year period.

City are still in contention and clawed back points on Chelsea with that win against the Saints last weekend.

“We know how important it is to be as close as possible to the top because if you want to win the league a lot can happen over Christmas. By New Year’s Day we want to be closer to Chelsea,” he told the Guardian.
