Henderson pleads for Gerrard contract extension

Liverpool made it two wins in a row with a 3-1 victory over Leicester City on Tuesday night, with Steven Gerrard marking his return to the starting line-up with a goal.

Gerrard's contract remains the hot topic on Merseyside, and whilst Brendan Rodgers says an offer is on the table, Gerrard says he will take his time to decide - and his midfield partner Jordan Henderson has called for him to stay after also finding the net against the Foxes.

"He's a massive player for us and a great leader," said Henderson. "We need to keep him for as long as we can. I hope he stays for many years to come. I thought Steven was outstanding for us. It was a real captain's performance from him. He worked so hard for the team and he got his rewards with his goal."

Lallana reflects on Leicester win

That win over Leicester started with a Simon Mingolet blunder, but Adam Lallana brought the Reds level before goals from Gerrard and Henderson.

Lallana is becoming a more and more important part of the Liverpool side, and says Liverpool will look to build on the win when they face Sunderland this weekend.

"It was a huge result for us and that's back-to-back wins," said Lallana. "It builds up to the game at the weekend nicely.

"It's a massive result for us. It has been a big week and we want to finish it well; we have got a great chance to get three points against Sunderland [this Saturday]. That's what we'll be aiming to do," he added.

'Next Aguero' linked with Liverpool move

With Rickie Lambert and Mario Balotelli struggling to make an impact this season, it would be little surprise to see Liverpool target a new striker in January.

According to reports in Italy, Rodgers will look to pursue a deal for Palermo striker Paulo Dybala, who has long been compared to Sergio Aguero.

The 21-year-old has contributed six goals and two assists already this season, and Liverpool have joined Arsenal in the race for his signature - even though he's now valued at £40m.
