Jenson Button Tweets on McLaren future as D-day looms

Jenson Button Winner Japan 2011 - Mclaren - Formula 1

Former Formula 1 World Champion Jenson Button should have his future clarified this week.

As Lewis Hamilton crossed the line at Abu Dhabi as World Formula 1 Champion last month he did so with the last Brit to achieve that feat in unknown circumstances.

Jenson Button, who has been in the top class of motorsport for 14 years now, is currently having his position at McLaren Mercedes considered by executives for the team. Fernando Alonso, who is being replaced by Sebastian Vettel at Ferrari, is expected to take the number one driver seat at McLaren next season with either Button or current team-mate Kevin Magnussen set to join him.

McLaren have a simple choice. Blend experience with youth, or go with a double former world champions team for next season.

Button, one of the most respected drivers on the grid, is expected to learn his fate this week but for many they have waited long enough and want to know whether the fan favourite will be lining up next campaign.

Today he has even taken to Twitter in a bid to cool the rumour mill from churning. He posted:

If Button does not retain his seat at McLaren he will not be short of offers. However it is suggested he may consider his F1 career if the plug is pulled at McLaren.
