Inter Milan vice president Javier Zanetti has given a vague response to a question about signing Tottenham Hotspur star Erik Lamela.
Lamela has been in revitalised form for Spurs under Mauricio Pochettino but various reports have suggested that Inter are among the sides interested in making a move for him this winter.
However, Zanetti played down that possibility when he was asked about Lamela as part of a question aimed at getting information about Inter’s January spending plans.
“Lavezzi and Lamela? They are big names who all teams would like. They are great players. Soon we will evaluate,” said Zanetti.
There’s nothing in those comments which suggests Lamela is a concrete target for Inter, which should give Spurs fans confidence that he’ll be part of the attack over the second half of the season.
Lamela has been popular for Pochettino because he’s versatile and can play different roles and positions in the Tottenham attack.
Any side looking to poach him from White Hart Lane is going to have to come up with a very good offer because Pochettino has shown frequently that Lamela is key to his aims of getting back into the Premier League’s top four.
There also doesn’t seem to be much logic in terms of why Lamela would move to Inter with regards to silverware and European football.
Inter are currently 11th in the Serie A table and it’s arguable a move there doesn’t represent a better chance of playing in the Champions League than if Lamela stays put and works hard for Spurs.
