Five midweek talking points for Leeds boss Neil Redfearn

Leeds United head coach Neil Redfearn could be mulling over a number of points ahead of the Ipswich game.

Leeds United head coach Neil Redfearn has had plenty of time to reflect on the 2-0 win against Derby County last weekend as he considers how to set the side up for the match against Ipswich Town.

Away from the team it’s been quite a week for the club’s owner Massimo Cellino, but Redfearn will want to keep the focus on beating Ipswich and breaking into the top half of the Championship table.

Here are five mid-week talking points the boss could be mulling over.

Jason Pearce

Giuseppe Bellusci and Liam Cooper did a fine job in the match against the Rams and Redfearn has to judge whether it’s time to bring his captain back into the team. Pearce is crucial for Leeds in any match away from Elland Road because of his leadership qualities.

Redfearn will be thinking about whether he should step in and have a word with Adryan after his antics during the Derby win. He’s undoubtedly a talented attacking player, but video has emerged where the Brazilian produced an over the top reaction to a midfield challenge.

Mirco Antenucci

Antenucci was the star of the show against Derby but the boss will be thinking about how he can keep the Italian striker motivated. It’s difficult because he’s one of the first names down on the team sheet but ‘Redders’ needs to try and prevent complacency from creeping into his game.

Leeds had very little to lose in the match against Derby. Few would have expected a solid 2-0 win and Redfearn was able to encourage the club’s attacking players. However, things will be different against Ipswich and while Leeds will be well supported, they need to guard against leaving themselves open on the counter.

While Redfearn will be focused on preparing his team, he is only human and part of him will wonder about the situation surrounding Massimo Cellino. It’s important he doesn’t allow any elements of uncertainty to wander into his decision making this week.
