Arsenal great Ray Parlour has backed Southampton to finish about Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League table this season.
The Saints are having a good 2014-15 Premier League campaign and have already achieved more than expected.
Heading into tonight’s league game against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in North London, Ronald Koeman’s Southampton find themselves third in the standings with 26 points from 13 matches.
Southampton are above Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, who take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge this evening.
Parlour believes that Southampton will not find themselves in the top four of the Premier League table at the end of the season, but claims that they will end up above Tottenham.
It is a bold statement to make, especially considering the different aims and ambitions of the two clubs.
While Southampton were - and are - probably going to be happy with a top-10 finish, Tottenham’s aim has always been to break into the top four.
Although the Saints are having a truly brilliant season, one needs to realise that there is a long way to go.
Tonight’s match against Arsenal will provide a better idea whether or not Southampton have the ability to go all the way.
