Davies: Spurs need to show three things to get Stamford Bridge result

Tottenham Hotspur left-back Ben Davies has given his thoughts on how the side can beat Chelsea this evening.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Ben Davies has explained how he feels the side have to play against Chelsea this evening to get a victory.

Spurs head into the game after a good win against Everton but they haven’t won away at Chelsea since 1990, which is one of the longest runs in Premier League history.

Davies feels a result is possible, but only if Spurs play in a set way and remain disciplined.

“We have to go in with no fear against them and if we do that then hopefully we can pick up a result,” he told Tottenham’s website.

“We have to show confidence away from home – We’ve got to be tight as a unit and if we do that then there’s a good chance that we can pick something up.”

Some of the pressure over Spurs is eased by the fact that they are heavy underdogs for the game.

That should help them produce that fearless attitude that Davies speaks about, which is important because it could shock Chelsea who may be expecting to have the run of the game for the majority of the 90 minutes.

Showing confidence away from home will also be difficult at a place like Stamford Bridge because of the rivalry between the clubs and because Chelsea will look to get on top during the game quickly.

Where spurs have to take heart is from performances like the one they displayed at Arsenal, where the stuck by their guns, kept to their game plan and enjoyed tremendous support.

Staying tight as a unit is also key because there are going to be spells during the game where it’s difficult for Tottenham to have any possession and those are the periods where Chelsea will look to break through.

Can Spurs win? They certainly have the team to secure three points. Do they believe they can win? We’ll have to wait and see how they start the game.
