The Serb admits he will have to keep a close eye on the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder at Stamford Bridge tonight.

Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic is being cautious when it comes to what the history books say ahead of Tottenham's trip to Stamford Bridge tonight.

Spurs haven't won at Chelsea for 24 matches but midfielder Matic is wary of statistics making him and his team-mates complacent ahead of another potentially grueling Premier League clash.

As such, the 26-year-old will 'try to watch out' for the threat a rejuvenated Tottenham side will pose in west London.

And one opposition player in particular is causing him some worry: Christian Eriksen.

“He is a great player,” Matic told the London Evening Standard when asked about Eriksen. “I will try to watch out for him because he will be playing near my position.

“Christian is very talented, is very dangerous in so many assets of the game. He can do a good pass, he can shoot and he can score goals.”

On Tottenham more generally, the Chelsea midfielder said: “They are a threat to us. It doesn’t matter what has happened over the last 24 years. It’s a new game and new challenge.

“They have won their last few games and will see this as a chance to get points to climb the table. We respect them a lot because they have a good team with good players and are a good club."
