United’s reported ‘major assault’ to sign Wesley Sneijder makes no sense

Wesley Sneijder has been linked with Manchester United...again.

There is one transfer rumour that Manchester United fans have probably heard more than any other, and that is the one linking them with Holland international Wesley Sneijder.

There was a time when the play-maker would have been the perfect addition to United’s squad, but not anymore.

Now Louis van Gaal has a side chock-full of creative talent with Wayne Rooney, Juan Mata, Angel Di Maria, Adnan Januzaj and Ander Herrera all competing to play in the area of the pitch Sneijder occupies.

But that has not stopped the rumour rearing its head once more, which is no surprise given the time of year.

With January fast approaching expect the rumour mill to go into a frenzy with United expected to sign at least one player in the post-Christmas sales.

United are in need of an experienced centre-back and a box-to-box midfielder, not a 30-year-old who may still score some great goals but has not been at his best for quite some time.

The latest claims come from Italian website TMW which states that Sneijder has ongoing contact with United and could say goodbye to his current club Galatasaray.

It goes on to say the player will seek reassurances from the Turkish side and that United are prepared to launch “a major assault” for him.

No, we don’t think so either, but it wouldn’t be a transfer window without a Sneijder to United rumour…even if the window is not open for another month!
