Arsenal youngster Chuba Akpom excited supporters with a hat-trick as he put himself back at the top of the scorers chart in the under-21 Premier League division 2.
Akpom netted three times in a confident Arsenal win to keep the pressure on leaders Newcastle United. The 19-year-old starred for the Gunners throughout the game and polish an outstanding record of nine goals in eight games.
Brighton's local newspaper The Argus conceded: 'Albion's under-21s were outclassed by Arsenal at the Amex' and one of the main components behind the Arsenal domination was the 'rangey and rapid centre-forward' Chuba Akpom.
Arsenal midfielder Glen Kamara put the ball beyond Brighton's highly-rated England under-20 keeper Christian Walton to give the Gunners the lead within the first 10 minutes. After that, it was all Akpom as Arsenal ran away with the game.
10 minutes after Kamara had put the Gunners 1-0 up, the Arsenal youngster got his first with a well-worked, intelligent tap-in. He doubled up soon after implementing his pace and impressive finishing, chipping the hapless Walton to make it 3-0 Arsenal.
After the break, Akpom had a host of chances to complete his hat-trick but struggled to find the back of the net. However, as it looked like he had missed his chance, he was brought down in added time by former teammate Tom Dallison and with a deep breathe calmly converted the penalty to complete his hat-trick.
After the game, Arsenal fans on Twitter were quick to praise the youngster following his hat-trick with the overwhelming majority now asking for Wenger to give him a chance in the first team.
Honestly think Chuba Akpom could be class for a Arsenal first team— Brad (@bradrthtyjban) December 1, 2014
I still rate Akpom higher than Giroud. Giroud is only our main striker cos Wenger needs him to keep female fans on his side.— Leo B Dasilva Jnr (@SirLeoBDasilva) December 1, 2014
Great performance by the U21's tonight. Akpom the clear standout the guy is clearly ready for First Team Football.— CS (@SHEworeA) December 1, 2014
