Paul Merson explains why Manchester United will win with ease v Stoke City

Leeds United East Stand

Former Arsenal star Paul Merson looks ahead to tonight’s Premier League clash between Manchester United and Stoke City.

Former Arsenal attacker Paul Merson has backed Manchester United to register an ‘easy win’ against Stoke City today.

The Red Devils will host the Potters at Old Trafford in the Premier League and will head into the game as the favourites.

United have struggled defensively so far this season and have also been inconsistent, but in recent weeks Louis van Gaal’s side appear to have gained momentum.

The Manchester outfit are currently fourth in the Premier League table with 22 points from 13 matches, and Merson expects them to remain in the top four at the end of Wednesday night.

“I thought Stoke were unlucky at Liverpool - they looked solid but conceded that late goal which cost them the game,” he wrote on Skysports.com.

“Manchester United, though, were really good on Saturday. They completely ripped Hull to shreds at Old Trafford, and I reckon they’ll carry that form on with another easy win in this one.”

United will be backed by many to win tonight, but Stoke should not be written off just yet.

Although Mark Hughes’s side have an inferior squad, playing at Old Trafford will certainly pump up the players.

If Stoke score an early goal, then they could pick up a point against United.
