There has been very little time for teams to recover and reflect after the weekend’s games with the next round of Premier League fixtures taking place over the course of this evening and tomorrow.
It’s a great chance for managers to take a close look at certain players in their squads as they start to mull over realistic additions they could make in the January transfer window.
We’ve decided to take a look back on the stories making the headlines on this day last year.
‘Arsenal’s Pato bid rejected’
Reports suggested that Arsenal had an €8 million bid for Brazilian striker Pato rejected.
Arsene Wenger was under pressure to make January signings, with a striker thought to be among his priorities.
However, Pato never arrived, with the club only swooping for Danny Welbeck on the final day of last summer’s transfer window.
‘Haigh moves in on Leeds United takover’
Reports from the Yorkshire Evening Post suggested that a group led by GFH Capital deputy chief executive David Haigh, was moving in on a takeover of the club.
Haigh was reported to have been considering the move for several months although it never materialised with Italian Massimo Cellino eventually completing a move to buy the club.
‘Walker on secret exchange with Chadli’
Kyle Walker revealed the secret exchange he had with Nacer Chadli before his goal against Manchester United in the 2-2 draw at White Hart Lane.
Walker drilled a free kick beyond Spanish goalkeeper David De Gea and says the effort was down to the Belgian’s quick thinking.
“I had a word with Nacer and the wall was a bit too close to the net for me to go around or up and down. He said he thought the wall would jump, so try to go underneath it. I did that and luckily it went in,” Walker revealed to Tottenham’s website.
