Former Manchester United and Liverpool striker Michael Owen has backed Arsenal to get the better of Southampton on Wednesday.
Arsenal appear to have regained their rhythm - some of it anyway - and have won their last two competitive matches, while Southampton suffered a comprehensive 3-0 home defeat to Manchester City on Sunday.
Southampton will be determined to bounce back in style at the Emirates, but Owen believes that Arsene Wenger’s side will be too much for them to handle.
“The Gunners are unbeaten in their last 19 home league games against the Saints and I expect that run to continue midweek,” the former England international wrote on Betvictor.com.
“The Saints will take heart from the fact that they have already beaten Arsenal at the Emirates in the Capital One Cup earlier in the season, but their comprehensive home defeat to City on Sunday was a chastening experience and they will do well to bounce back against an Arsenal side whose defeat at the hands of United recently was their first in 23 home games.”
Arsenal will indeed be favourites to win against Southampton on Wednesday, but they should not be too complacent.
Despite the Saints’ defeat at the weekend, Ronald Koeman’s side are a good and well-knit team who are likely to raise their game against the Gunners.
Southampton have some very good attacking players and the best defence in the Premier League, and they will be looking for at least a draw in North London.
