Manchester United latest: Early team news; Arturo Vidal speaks

All the latest news, views and transfer rumours from Old Trafford…

Manchester United take on Stoke City this evening as Louis van Gaal’s side look to make it four wins on the bounce.

United have beaten Crystal Palace, Arsenal and Hull City in recent weeks and if they can overcome Mark Hughes’ side they will be well on the way to showing they are back challenging for a top four place – and possibly even making Chelsea stand up and take notice despite their lofty position.

In early team news, the BBC reports that Angel Di Maria will be missing with a hamstring injury but skipper Wayne Rooney is expected to be back despite suffering a knock at the weekend.

Steve Sidwell and Glenn Whelan are out for Stoke but former United defender Phil Bardsley is expected to return.

In other news, reported United target Arturo Vidal has been speaking to reporters about his ongoing injury problems.

With January approaching United fans can expect the usual rumours linking the Chilean with a move to Old Trafford, but the player himself has hinted that he is still far from his best.

In comments published by, Vidal said, “The knee caused – and is causing – me problems.

“But I’m trying to get in top shape.”

That news could prevent any move van Gaal may have been considering prior to next summer.
