Former Manchester United star Patrice Evra criticised in Italy

Ex-United defender subject of criticism after a underwhelming start in Serie A.

Much has been made of Nemanja Vidic's difficult start at Inter Milan, but Patrice Evra's spell at Juventus is not proving a huge success either.

The Frenchman was sold for just over £1 million in the summer after Luke Shaw was signed by United, and went straight into the Juventus starting line-up.

The left-back has however been only a bit-part player, sidelined for much of the campaign and making only five starts in the Serie A.

He missed a month through a thigh injury, but this has cut little slack over in Italy.

Italian newspaper Tuttosport have been critical of him, writing: "Who would have thought that Patrice Evra could become a problem?

"Juve hoped when they persuaded him to accept his proposal leaving Manchester United who did not want to let go, he hoped to have found the right man can reinforce decisively the left wing. And, instead, at least until now, only disappointment."

Evra played in the weekend win over Torino, but it was his first game in over a month, having lost his place to 30-year-old Simone Padoin during his time out.

The paper added: "The whole of Juve is waiting for him, no one can believe that this is the real Evra. He knows he has to give more."

Evra has made the most tackles and interceptions per game of any Juventus defender barring Giorgio Chiellini, so perhaps the critique is overblown.
