Manchester United have not made a bid for Stromsgodset midfielder Martin Odegaard according to the Norwegian club’s sporting director.
United have been heavily linked with the 15-year-old attacking midfielder, who has already represented his country at senior level and is being touted as European football’s next big thing.
But despite suggestions Louis van Gaal’s side may have already opened negotiations regarding a potential move Jostein Flo put certain rumours to bed.
In comments initially given to TV2 and later published by Talk Sport, Flo said, “We have not received a bid from Manchester United for Odegaard, so once again this is just speculation.
“It might have come through the mail box, but it has certainly not reached me.”
Odegaard was linked with a summer move to United, with Sky Sports News reporting on transfer deadline day that the teenager could join Radamel Falcao as a last-minute arrival. But that did not happen and the Norwegian international has continued to impress both for club and country.
That said, given the player’s undeniable talent United are likely to be interested if and when he does finally move on.
Given the success of former Norwegian internationals Ole Gunnar Solskjar and Ronny Johnsen, Odegaard will know United is exactly the kind of club where he can blossom.
