Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jamie Redknapp has conceded on recent criticism he’s made of Mauricio Pochettino’s team.
Spurs played well in a 2-1 win against Everton yesterday, as they fixed a jinx which has followed them around this season after playing in the Europa League on a Thursday night.
Goals from Christian Eriksen and Roberto Soldado were enough to get Spurs over the line and secure the three points, with Redknapp singling out the Dane for praise.
“I’ve been critical of Tottenham in the past, but they were good against Everton. They have made some poor signings but Christian Eriksen is a shining light for them,” wrote Redknapp for the Daily Mail.
Eriksen is arguably the most important player at the club this season as he plays a key role linking the midfield and attack.
He’s one of the few players at the club who is capable of creating links with different teammates and creating chances in a split second, which make it easier for his teammates to score.
He also showed against Everton that he’s got great technique under pressure and is capable of keeping his cool when other players may get flustered and waste a good chance to score at a vital time in big games.
The performance by Spurs, and from Eriksen, yesterday is definitely a step in the right direction but it’s important they back it up with a good display against London rivals Chelsea as they travel to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.
