'My mum's Jewish' - Liverpool's Mario Balotelli defends Instagram post

Is Liverpool's Mario Balotelli risking trouble?

Liverpool Mario Balotelli can't help but make trouble for himself.

He posted a light-hearted anti-racism message about the SuperMario Nintendo character onto his Instagram page on Monday evening, which contained the following phrase:

'He jumps like a black man and grabs coins like a Jew'.

The stereotype depiction of Jewish people as money-grabbers is exactly what Wigan chairman Dave Whelan landed himself in trouble with last month, claiming they 'chase money'. He has been charged by the FA.

Hearing the criticism, Balotelli took to Twitter to suggest no ill will was meant, especially given his mum is Jewish. But is it too little too late?

The Telegraph have already suggested the striker faces an 'anti-Semitism' storm, and it's controversy the striker could have done without bringing on himself.

Earlier in the day, Balotelli had posted a photo, which he deleted, poking fun at former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez's biting.

While he has not been much help on the pitch since signing, perhaps it's best he recovers from injury promptly, if only to keep himself out of trouble.
