Former Manchester United and Liverpool striker Michael Owen believes that Tottenham Hotspur could win against Chelsea on Wednesday.
Chelsea are still unbeaten and at the top of the league table, of course, but the Blues’ goalless draw with Sunderland away from home at the weekend has sparked suggestion that Jose Mourinho’s side are slowing down.
Heading into midweek’s round of matches in the Premier League, Chelsea find themselves six points clear of second-placed Manchester City, but Owen believes that the gap could be reduced to just three by the end of Wednesday night.
“Wednesday night could prove to be a big night in this season's race for the title; Chelsea who will be without Diego Costa who is suspended, are due to entertain a Tottenham side who are just beginning to look like they are adapting to their new manager's style of play while Manchester City will be treading in the footsteps of Chelsea albeit hoping to pocket more points from their trip to the Stadium of Light,” the 34-year-old wrote on Sportlobster.com.
“It’s not beyond the realms of possibility that the lead at the top of the table could be down to just 3 points by the time the final whistles blow on Wednesday….”
City are away at Sunderland on Wednesday, and given their recent run of form, one would expect Manuel Pellegrini’s side to win the match.
Chelsea’s game against Tottenham will be much more difficult, especially as the North London outfit gave one of their best performances of the season against Everton at White Hart Lane on Sunday.
