Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has confirmed that Morgan Schneiderlin will not be available for his side’s match against Arsenal on Wednesday.
The French international was substituted at half-time after sustaining an abductor muscle injury against Manchester City on Sunday; and his absence played a big part in the Saints’ 3-0 defeat to Manuel Pellegrini’s men.
Speaking ahead of Southampton’s match with the Gunners, Koeman confirmed that Schneiderlin would not be available and is having a scan to ascertain the severity of the injury.
The midfielder’s absence is huge considering Southampton are following up their match against City with a trip to Arsenal before welcoming Manchester United to St Mary’s.
Koeman will want his best starting XI fit for matches that will determine just how far the South Coast club have come and whether they really can stake a claim for a top-four finish.
But it is up to those who can play to step up in the absence of a man who has been exceptional under Koeman so far.
