Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen has been analysing his side’s victory over Everton at White Hart Lane on Sunday.
The North London club fell behind to a Kevin Mirallas goal in the 15th minute, but strikes from Christian Eriksen and Roberto Soldado saw Spurs pick up all three points from the Premier League clash.
It was Tottenham’s best performance in the league at home so far this season, and Vertonghen has explained why they played so well.
“I think we can do better in possession, but I think we showed character," The London Evening Standard quotes the 27-year-old as saying.
"We had a very good defensive line, the midfield and strikers as well were very good. It was team performance today.
"It helps that the strikers and midfielders press their direct opponents because it makes the distances smaller. It makes our job easier."
It was indeed a team performance in which all the players played their role and stepped up their game.
Tottenham had 13 shots, created nine chances, had 83% pass accuracy, and made 21 interceptions, 28 clearances and 15 blocks.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side still need to improve as Everton did come close to equalising on occasions and indeed took the lead, but Spurs showed on Sunday that they are improving.
