Paris Saint-Germain player Javier Pastore has been speaking about his teammate Angel Di Maria’s failure to move to the French capital.
Di Maria was widely tipped to swap Real Madrid for Ligue 1 in the summer but ultimately he signed for Manchester United for a British-record fee of £59.7million.
In an interview with Al Jazeera Sport later published by Le10 Sport, Pastore said of United’s record buy, “I asked him why he had not come. But it is he who decided.
“I think he almost signed for PSG. There was much discussion but in the end Manchester United came and they bought a great player. He can defend, attack, he knows everything.”
Di Maria started life at Old Trafford in blistering form but that has dipped in recent weeks and he left the field early due to injury against Hull City. But his countryman believes it will simply take him time to consistently play at his best.
“In England it is different football,” Pastore added. “He needs a little time to get to the top.”
But when he does, he should go down as one of United’s greatest ever players.
