Federico Fazio has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur initially made their approach in June.
The 27-year-old central defender joined the North London club from Sevilla in late August for a reported transfer fee of £8 million.
"The deal didn't come through until the end of August but the truth is that Pochettino and the club had already expressed their interest in me since June, even before starting the pre-season with Sevilla,” the Argentina international told IBTimes UK.
“So even though it didn't happen until the final days of the transfer window I was not worried about my situation.”
One wonders why it took so long for Tottenham to sign the 27-year-old? Perhaps Seville wanted more money? Because the World Cup came in the way?
Despite what appeared to be a protracted contract situation, Fazio is finally in the Premier League.
Or is he?
For some reason, Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has been reluctant to feature Fazio heavily in the Premier League.
So far, the Argentine has made just four appearances in the league, although he has played as many matches in the Europa League.
Fazio is a brilliant defender as he showed during his time in Spain. Perhaps Pochettino is trying to acclimatise him to the Premier League at the moment…
