Chelsea morning news: Mourinho explains the silver lining of Costa's suspension

Jose Mourinho Double

A round up of news stories this morning about Chelsea.

Jose Mourinho has spoken about the silver lining of Diego Costa’s suspension.

The Spaniard picked up his fifth booking of the season against Sunderland, which means he misses Chelsea’s next game.

“In this busy period when you play so many matches, players to get a fifth yellow card and one game to rest is not good for the team but, you are right, individually it gives them a new energy,” said Mourinho.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho says complacency wasn’t an issue for his side against Sunderland.

The Blues failed to cash in on the chance to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table as they drew 0-0 away in the North East.

“When you lose points because the opponent tries everything to make it difficult for you and when my boys tried everything to win, no complaining,” said the boss.

Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic insists the side can cope without Costa.

Matic insists the side have good back up options to cope when Costa isn’t available.

“Of course we need to have everybody available but in Didier Drogba and Loic Remy, we have good strikers,” said the Serbian.
