With injury woes piling up in midfield, it would be little surprise to anyone if Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger chose to bring in another midfielder.
Mikel Arteta and Jack Wilshere are both currently out, whilst Aaron Ramsey's form has nosedived this season, leaving Arsenal short of quality in midfield.
Fans want Mathieu Flamini to be replaced anyway, and despite being linked with moves for William Carvalho (Sporting Lisbon), Grzegorz Krychowiak (Sevilla) and Moussa Sissoko (Newcastle), reports today suggest that Cruzeiro's Lucas Silva is now on the radar.
The 21-year-old has become a key part of the Cruzeiro side in recent times, and has subsequently attracted interest from the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Real Madrid.
Last week, the player's agent confirmed that there was firm interest from United over a January deal, whilst it was also revealed that Cruzeiro want €15m (£12m) for their star midfielder.
A classy ball playing midfielder with enough strength and aggression to go into tackles, Silva looks to be the ideal heir to Arteta in the Arsenal midfield, and even admitted that he now prefers playing as a holding midfielder having previously been seen as a striker.
"I started as a striker," admitted Silva in an interview with Brazilian TV. "Then I was being worked on to play as a defensive midfielder. Today, I feel really good in that position."
With superb technique to play in the Gunners midfield, Silva could be a great addition in January, particularly for just £12m. He may take some time to adapt to English football, but he has bags of potential, and can play in a number of different midfield roles - something Wenger has liked previously.
Yet there's still the concern over Real Madrid. With Sami Khedira expected to leave in the coming months, the Champions League winners are likely to be in the market for another midfielder, and Silva is reportedly at the top of their list.
Real don't know what will happen with Khedira just yet, which means Arsenal need to move quickly if they are to secure the signing of this young Samba sensation.
