Tottenham Hotspur have received bad news if their reported interest in Jackson Martinez is true.
The Colombian international has been heavily linked with a move to White Hart Lane in recent times, with Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino in need of a quality front-man. But any fans hoping to see the FC Porto player arrive in January may have to readjust their expectations.
The Portuguese club’s president Pinto da Costa has been speaking about the possibility of incomings or outgoings in January, with an emphatic message to any potential suitors for his star players.
In quotes published by newspaper Record, da Costa said, “The squad will be the same for the entire season.”
While he suggested that some fringe players may leave on loan he said the core group of 18 will remain for the entire campaign, thus ruling out any major departures in the January transfer window.
That is bad news for anyone who had their eye on Jackson, a player who has already scored 13 goals in 17 games this season and has 130 in just 205 club appearances.
Tottenham were reportedly keen on a move for Jackson at the end of last season and the player was linked with the club again in recent days, with both Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado tipped for the exit.
But it seems there will be no move for the Colombian in January, when Tottenham fans will be hoping a goal-scorer of real quality does arrive regardless.
