The St James' Park faithful were not best pleased with the midfielder after he was sent off at Upton Park on Saturday afternoon.
Quite what Moussa Sissoko was thinking at Upton Park yesterday afternoon, we may never know.
The first was for kicking the ball away in dissent and the second a completely needless challenge on Andy Carroll.
And the midfielder's actions were not well received by the Newcastle faithful.
“Moussa was frustrated he had not got the free-kick in the box and then just lost his mind a bit, with kicking the ball away and then in the next incident is just a minute after,” Toon boss Alan Pardew told reporters after his side's defeat.
“It’s not like Moussa, he has been outstanding for us. He has to learn from this, but he is not a malicious player, although having seen it on the replay, it does not look good.”
Not that that excuses Sissoko's behaviour, of course, and not that the 25-year-old's actions went unnoticed by Newcastle supporters on Twitter after the game...
Pathetic from sissoko, absolutely pathetic. Not what u expect from your captain #NUFC— Graeme Dawson (@GDawson7) November 29, 2014
People trying to defend Sissoko. The bloke saz our captain and committed two separate idiotic mistakes in less than a minute. Captain. #NUFC— MR © (@rooney03) November 29, 2014
West Ham away, one of the most boring games I have ever seen. Newcastle so average, Sissoko was a big disappointment with his actions. #NUFC— Andrew Turnbull (@ajt55) November 29, 2014
I think sissoko kicked the ball away on purpose as he was trying to miss the burnley game and be back against chelsea and arsenal. #NUFC— HenryHcode (@HenryHcode) November 29, 2014
No Sissoko or Colback against Burnley, arguably our two best player this season. Hope this doesn't start a run of defeats #nufc— aaron hadfield (@aaronhadfield) November 29, 2014
