The former midfield enforcer was not pleased with Mangala's performance against Southampton.
Manchester City reaffirmed their title credentials today, whilst putting a dent in the lofty ambition of Southampton's.
They won their fixture on the South-Coast 3-0 thanks to goals from Yaya Toure, Frank Lampard and Gael Clichy.
They did all this despite going down to ten men with the score at 1-0. It was their much maligned summer signing Eliaquim Mangala who received his marching orders.
It would be fair to say that most City fans have not been overly excited by the performances of the Frenchman since his arrival from FC Porto. His performances have not been particularly bad, but he is certainly not living up to his massive price-tag.
Manchester City battled hard for his signing, eventually splashing out around £31.8 million for the player.
Considering the way defenders who cost a lot less than Mangala have performed so far this season, it is fair to say that City overpaid for the player.
One person who agreed was Didi Hamaan. The former German international, who played for City for three seasons between 2006 and 2009, showed his amazement at the poor display of Mangala on Twitter, stating:
£35m for Mangala. Time to bring some common sense back into the game.— Didi Hamann (@DietmarHamann) November 30, 2014
