Danny Welbeck is pleased that his manager has a choice in attacking options this season.
The goal came from summer signing Danny Welbeck, who was in need of a goal after a mini barren period. Not only that, but the return to fitness of Olivier Giroud makes life a lot more difficult for him to play regular football.
Welbeck rose up high to head home a stunning delivery from Santi Cazorla from the left and he paid tribute to the Spaniard for the winning assist:
“It was great skill from Santi on the left. Once he got to the byline I knew roughly where he was going to put the ball, so I timed my run and got the right connection on it.
He then went on to discuss the fact he has not been scoring regularly in recent weeks and how his goal will hopefully spark more, giving his gaffer a headache.
From having no striker options Arsenal are now spoilt for choice. With Welbeck, Alexis Sanchez, Olivier Giroud, Lukas Podoslki, Theo Walcott, Yaya Sanogo and Joel Campbell all available Welbeck needs to put in impressive performances on a weekly basis to retain his spot in the team.
“I’ve had a couple blocked off the line [in recent games] and it just wasn’t going my way, but I’ve got the goal and I’m just looking forward to scoring more and helping the team to win games.
“It gives the manager a good headache and he’s got a lot of options going forward. Going into the games, everybody’s going to be giving 100 per cent.
“Once they get their opportunity they’re going to do the best they can. There’s players who were on the bench or weren’t even in the squad who can do a very good job for Arsenal.”
Welbeck will be hoping his goal allows him to continue playing through the middle on a regular basis.
