STATS: Forget Welbeck - This man was Arsenal’s outstanding performer vs WBA

Cazorla Corner

Arsenal star Santi Cazorla was excellent in the victory over West Bromwich Albion.

Arsenal playmaker Santi Cazorla was the outstanding performer as the Gunners produced a spirited display to down West Bromwich Albion 1-0 at The Hawthorns.

The Gunners went into the match off the back of a morale-boosting Champions League win over Borussia Dortmund following two consecutive defeats in the Premier League.

Chilean international Alexis Sanchez has been star player at the Emirates in recent weeks, but boss Arsene Wenger will be pleased his other attacking players produced the goods in the day’s early kick-off.

Danny Welbeck scored the only goal of the game, guiding home a header from a Santi Cazorla cross 15 minutes after the half-time interval.

The English forward will no doubt win the plaudits, but it was Cazorla who was the game’s outstanding performer, as shown per the table provided by Opta Stats.

The Spanish international was a constant threat throughout, contributing well both from an attacking and defensive perspective.

The former Malaga ace attempted to test the WBA shot-stopper on four occasions, made three key passes and completed four successful dribbles.

In possession, Cazorla was a clam figure as he picked out his teammates with regularity while also protecting the ball with minimal fuss.

The three points momentarily took the North Londoners back in to the top four, a position which is now the primary target for Wenger and his men come the end of the season.

Up next for the Gunners is a crunch tie against Southampton at the Emirates, an opportunity to close the gap on the high-flying Saints who to many are now also considered Champions League hopefuls.
