The Turkish international was at it again today for Bayer Leverkusen.
Liverpool made plenty of changes this summer. But one player they were keen on, but in the end did not sign, was Hakan Calhanoglu. The Turkish international spent last season at Bundesliga side Hamburg SV.
Dubbed the 'next Ozil' the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Bayern Munich were all rumoured to be keen on the player.
But Brendan Rodgers personally watched him play with Calhanoglu saying Liverpool's interest was a ‘great honour’.
In the end he stayed in Germany. After an ugly transfer saga he joined Bundesliga rivals Bayer Leverkusen in a €14.5 million deal.
Recently however he has probably given Brendan Rodgers nightmares with his performances in Germany.
The attacking midfielder scored another goal for Leverkusen this weekend, netting in the 5-1 win against FC Koln at the BayArena.
Once again it came from a free-kick.
His ability from a dead-ball first came to international attention when he scored from just inside his own half against Borussia Dortmund for Hamburg last season.
This season he has already netted free-kicks against Schalke and Magdeburg. He added to that with this strike against Koln earlier today.
Liverpool could certainly do with this free-kick specialist among the ranks
