Aston Villa are still without a win in nine games after drawing 1-1 with Burnley at Turf Moor this afternoon, leaving them just two points above the relegation zone.
Danny Ings' late penalty earned a point for Sean Dyche's Clarets, meaning they are now unbeaten in the last three games, closing in on a place outside the drop zone.
In need of goals, under-fire Villa boss turned to 33-year-old Joe Cole, who was making his first start of the season in a goal-shy Villa attack.
A free transfer signing from West Ham this summer, Cole has been on the periphery of the Villa side so far, but repaid Lambert's faith in him in East Lancashire.
Cole turned home Andreas Weimann's near post cross in the first half to give Villa the lead, and whilst his team mates couldn't hold on for the win, fans were impressed with the former Liverpool flop.
Supporters took to Twitter to voice their praise for Cole, suggesting that he is the spark that the Aston Villa attack have been missing for weeks.
Just back, so frustrating once again! One positive was Joe Cole but we really should have put them away #avfc— Jamie Hughes (@JayHughes90) November 29, 2014
Encouraging to hear Joe Cole made a positive impact today, but he's been sat on the bench all season! It's hardly a revelation! #avfc— Andy (@AndyVilla80) November 29, 2014
How good was joe cole today seriously, different class #avfc— Nick Brennan (@NBrennan94) November 29, 2014

On a positive note Joe Cole was absolutely fantastic today, made a difference in the middle of the park, was a throwback to 2005! #AVFC— Dale Parkes (@dale_villain) November 29, 2014
