Matt discusses what he liked about the teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens

So the time has finally arrived and a new Star Wars Trailer is here.

The teaser trailer from Star Wars: The Force Awakens was unleashed upon the world today and the internet is already awash with those praising or bemoaning the short glimpse of JJ Abrahms' venture into the Star Wars universe.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be released in December 2015 and will follow on approximately 30 years after the events of Return of the Jedi.

What side of the fence am I sitting on with the new trailer? Well, I loved it.

In the trailer we see John Boyega's yet to be named character in Stormtrooper armour on a desert planet which may, or may not, be Tatooine. We see a squad of Stormtroopers entering a battle in their shiny new armour. We see Daisy Ridley's character on presumably the same desert planet riding some form of Speeder. We see Oscar Isaac's character leading a squad of X-Wing across a lake. We see a Sith in an icy forest with a new sword-like Lightsaber. Finally we see the Millenium Falcon, looping the loop above a desert planet as two Tie Fighters speed by in the opposite direction.

All in all everything about this teaser is exciting and raises many, many questions, most of which won't be answered until the film is released.

Now a lot of the parts I have mentioned above I really enjoyed but it would seem that many didn't so what did I like about it?

Mostly I liked the questions it raised, Who is John Boyega's character and why is he dressed as a Stormtrooper? Is that Tatooine? Is Daisy Ridley's character' clothing supposed to resemble that of Princess Leia on Endor? Could she be a child of Luke or Leia's? Who is this new Sith? Is he or she a master or apprentice?

I was also really impressed with the visual side of the trailer. The new Stormtrooper armour looks awesome and extremely menacing. Many didn't like the new Sith Lightsaber but I thought it was great, why not have a Lightsaber that looks like Excaliber? The Millenium Falcon scene was just classic Star Wars and really peaked the excitement.

My favourite moment though has to be that simply amazing shot of the X-Wings absolutely speeding across the lake. The sense of speed they have managed to create in just that one shot is incredible and was enough for me to go from interested watcher to drooling fanboy in a matter of seconds.

As I said not everyone will agree with me and my colleague Adam has different ideas on the new trailer. See his thought below.

The new Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens trailer falls flat

I for one however cannot wait for the full trailer to be released and am even more excited for the films full release next December. How can I wait that long though? A Jedi learns patience.

May the Force be with you.
