Sheffield Wednesday fans react on Twitter to O'Grady's Sheffield United move

Former Sheffield Wednesday striker Chris O'Grady has clinched a loan move to Sheffield United.

Sheffield United concluded their search for a striker on Thursday by bringing in Chris O'Grady.

He is a player well known in Yorkshire, for a spell with Barnsley, and notably - United's big rivals Sheffield Wednesday.

O'Grady had been playing at Brighton, but has had a tough start to the season after signing for the Seagulls in the summer, failing to score in eight Championship and three League Cup games.

A loan move suited himself and the club, and it was Sheffield United who won the race for his signature, confirming a deal which lasts until January 31.

Speaking to the club website, manager Nigel Clough said: "There aren't too many strikers of Chris's calibre around at the moment, we liked him last season at Barnsley and he has got good Championship experience.

"Chris was a target for us in the summer, but Brighton came in with a deal we simply couldn't match in terms of wages and what they could have been potentially offering him as a playing challenge."

Clearly delighted to land him, Clough has a player who is better than his Brighton record suggests. At Barnsley he scored 21 goals and provided nine assists in 59 games.

O'Grady played 60 games for Sheffield Wednesday, netting 13 goals and providing six assists.
