Sky Sports Italia claims AS Roma have reached an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur defender Vlad Chiriches.
Reports suggest that the only thing now holding back the move from happening is a fee being agreed between the two clubs ahead of a deal going through in January.
It shouldn’t be considered a major blow for Tottenham because the middle of their defence is one of the strongest areas in Mauricio Pochettino’s first team squad.
He has good options at centre back in the form of Younes Kaboul, Jan Vertonghen, Federico Fazio and Eric Dier recently announced his desire to play at centre back long term for the club.
Chiriches has struggled to make the most of the opportunities he’s been given by Mauricio Pochettino this season, which has created the circumstances for him to be moved on with minimal effect for Pochettino’s first team.
Whether Spurs look to replace him with another defensive signing this winter remains to be seen, but they could also use any funds from the deal to push on and improve other areas of the first team squad.
Walter Sabatini, Roma director, is due to travel to London to try and get a deal done over the next few weeks, in order to get everything in place for a move to go through in January.
