Danny Higginbotham on leadership
Danny Higginbotham believes that Liverpool do not have enough leaders on the pitch.
The former Manchester United and Stoke City defender claims that midfielder Steven Gerrard and winger Raheem Sterling are the only two visible leaders for the Reds during a match.
“I see a real problem with leadership in the Liverpool team,” the 35-year-old wrote in The Independent.
“The periods when you really see that component are the first 20 minutes of a game - trying to get the side off to a flying start - or the last 20, holding on strongly to what they have.
“It says everything that Liverpool have conceded seven out of their last eight Premier League goals in either those first 20 or last 20 minutes. Steven Gerrard and Sterling, because of his ability to create, are the only leaders on the field, for me.”
Paul Merson's prediction
Liverpool will return to Premier League action on Saturday when they host Stoke City at Anfield.
Former Arsenal attacker Paul Merson has backed Brendan Rodgers’s side to win the encounter and wrote on Skysports.com: “I think just Liverpool here. Stoke have been better away from home this season than at home which is a surprise.
“I know Liverpool are all over the place at the moment but I'm going to go with Liverpool here on the strength that they have got to turn the corner sooner rather than later, otherwise I couldn’t see them winning this game to be honest.”
The 27-year-old Argentina international has been linked with a move to the Merseyside outfit in January, and the player’s agent, Mino Raiola, is reportedly by TMW to be confident of striking a deal.
