Neil Mellor thanks fans on ten year anniversary of Arsenal goal

Welcome To Anfield

Neil Mellor scored 'that' goal against Arsenal ten years ago today.

Neil Mellor was supposed to become a regular in the Liverpool first-team. A burly centre forward with an eye for goal he made his name with an excellent strike against Arsenal in in 2004, which was in fact ten years ago today.

Mellor struck in a fabulous half volley to give Liverpool victory on the 28th November 2004.

But of course, his career never truly got off the blocks.

Despite his promising start to his Liverpool career it never quite happened for him.

He went on to score another memorable goal for Liverpool, in that important victory against Olympiakos in the same year.

In the end he suffered injury problems at the club, spending time on loan at West Ham United and Wigan Athletic, with little success.

He went on to join Preston North End and enjoy a successful spell on loan at Sheffield Wednesday. But in 2012, a year after a knee ligament injury picked up against MK Dons, he struggled to regain full fitness and the former Liverpool man retired in May 2012.

Now a Sky Sports pundit - he thanked fans on Twitter who had reminded him of that memorable day in his career:
