Apart from the all important goals count, statistics do not always tell you everything about a football match.
Opta powered website whoscored's player ratings system marked Celtic defender Efe Ambrose as the club's best player on the pitch other than Scott Brown, but his display was far from it.
The Nigerian defender came in for the injured Jason Denayer against Red Bull Salzburg, but could not prevent the club falling to a 3-1 defeat.
Ambrose made six interceptions and seven clearances, but Celtic's defence looked prone to errors all night.
Credit must go to Salzburg, who set their stall out early on, going 2-0 up after just 13 minutes and leaving the home side with a mountain to climb.
The SPL champions fought back with a goal from Stefan Johansen, and there was only a 49-51 per cent possession split in favour of the Austrians, who only wrapped up the game late on with an injury time goal.
Ambrose, whose Nigeria side recently failed to qualify for the upcoming African Nations Cup, was playing in his third Europa League game of the season, have been omitted from the last two starting line-ups.
He has also played only one of the last six SPL games, and judging from the comments made by Celtic fans on Twitter regarding his performance, loanee Jason Denayer cannot return to fitness quickly enough...

Cant see what the management see in Stokes Mulgrew and Efe Ambrose. Although RB Salzburg are some operators.— Conor (@ConorCFC_) November 27, 2014
