Today is Carers Rights Day.
Bank Workers Charity is here to support people working in banking with life’s challenges. Having the right information at the right time can make a huge difference when you are looking after someone. If you are a carer, you are not alone. The latest census shows that there are over 6 million carers in the UK.
Carers Trust estimates that the economic value of the contribution made by carers in the UK is £119bn per year, and taking into account that over the next 30 years the number of carers will increase by 3.4 million (around 60%), the value and the help of carers is vital.
More than 2 million people become carers every year. Many people are unaware of the support and entitlements available and miss out on financial and practical support. Do you know your entitlements? Why not have a look at our guide on Benefits for Carers.
Many carers take on their responsibilities single handed, unaware that there is a large network of support available to them. If you are a carer, it is important to know where to turn for advice, information and support. Our guide on Sources of support for carers gives an overview of what support you can get as a carer.
It is very likely that one out of every seven of your colleagues is a carer, and that more than two thirds will become carers during their working lives. Balancing a caring role with work can be challenging. It is common to find yourself juggling lots of different commitments such as your job, your caring role, other family commitments as well as your own personal needs. Struggling to balance it all? Why not download our balancing life and being a carer guide.
