Benjamin Stambouli comments on impact of pitch invaders on Tottenham team

France Football

Tottenham Hotspur matchwinner Benjamin Stambouli admitted the first half interruption was not to the benefit of the team.

Tottenham's 1-0 win over Partizan Belgrade was marred by a bizarre set of first half pitch invasions.

There were three separate interruptions, which made play so farcical that the referee sent the players from the pitch to the changing rooms while the stewards got the situation under control.

Spurs confirmed after the game that the three perpetrators had been arrested.

The incidents disrupted the flow of the game, and matchwinner Benjamin Stambouli confirmed to ITV afterwards that there was a negative impact on the team  - while he was still under the impression they were Spurs fans, rather than, as it appears part of a pre-planned co-ordinated advertising stunt.

He said: "It was not very easy. We don't want to arrest them but it's complicated.

"We spent five minutes in the changing rooms. It's never easy but we have to focus, we are professionals."

While it may have been tricky for Tottenham, Partizan had to cope with the same problem too, and made for an unsatisfactory turn of events all round.
