Ubisoft gives out free DLC for AC: Unity following shaky launch

Assassin's Creed: Unity Season Pass holders to also get free game

Following a launch fraught with problems. Ubisoft has announced it will be giving away free content to owners of the game by way of compensation.

The news came as part of a formal apology posted by Ubisoft Montreal CEO Yannis Mallet.

"Unfortunately, at launch, the overall quality of the game was diminished by bugs and unexpected technical issues," Mallet said. "I want to sincerely apologize on behalf of Ubisoft and the entire Assassin's Creed team. These problems took away from your enjoyment of the game, and kept many of you from experiencing the game at its fullest potential."

"We've been working hard to fix the problems players are reporting, and the patches we have released so far have resolved many of them," he added.

It has also been confirmed that the Assassin’s Creed Season Pass has been “discontinued, resulting in current Season Pass holders on all platforms being offered a free game of their choosing from the list below:

  • The Crew
  • Far Cry 4
  • Watch Dogs
  • Assassin's Creed Black Flag
  • Rayman Legends
  • Just Dance 2015

Everyone who owns Unity, including those who paid for Season Passes will be able to download the Assassin's Creed Unity Dead Kings DLC add-on for free.

Graphical glitches and gameplay bugs have plagued AC: Unity across the platforms since it arrived . On top of this, the Xbox One and PS4 versions of the game have both struggled to stay steady at 30 frames per second while PC gamers have experienced graphical performance issues.

In a continued attempt to fix known problems, Ubisoft has already released three updates - the most recent said to address over 300 issues. The developer has since announced a fourth update is in the works.
