Lukas Podolski Germany

Arsenal's Lukas Podolski didn't let Dortmund return to Germany without a personal goodbye.

Arsenal's Lukas Podolski barely got a kick against old German rivals Borussia Dortmund, playing only the last 12 minutes.

In fact he touched the ball just eight times, having to watch the inexperienced Yaya Sanogo start - and score, for the Gunners.

Podolski has spoken regularly in recent weeks of his frustration, telling the German press he does not want to 'sit on the bench like a clown' and see out his contract.

Arsene Wenger refuses to budge, even with injuries, and for Podolski missing out on the chance to grab headlines in his homeland will have been disappointing.

As Dortmund were preparing to leave The Emirates after the 2-0 defeat, Podolski headed into the parking lot to say a personal goodbye to his opponents.

Did jumping on board to join them cross his mind? The sad aspect is, if he did, Arsene Wenger would probably not even notice at the moment, feeling a player who is still a German international is not up to scratch to start, playing only 46 minutes of Premier League football and 39 minutes of Champions League action this season.

Podolski didn't sneak onto the coach, but having not done so is only delaying the inevitable. It appears he is heading into his last month or so in London with the transfer window opening in January, and he's probably wondering quite what it is he did wrong.
