New Crewe Alexandra signing Nicky Ajose says he wanted to leave Leeds United far sooner.
Nicky Ajose signed on loan for Crewe Alexandra yesterday, in a deal lasting until January 5.
The winger did not feature for Leeds' first team after Dave Hockaday was sacked, and could clearly tell his days at the club were numbered.
Speaking to Crewe's website after clinching the move, Ajose said he has been wanting to move for a while.
He said: "I’ve wanted to come out for probably about three months now. It’s been difficult to say the least to get out to come and play football. It’s been going on a while now for the possible opportunity to come and play here and finally it’s been done and I’m looking forward to getting back to doing my job.
“I want to play football on a Saturday afternoon. I’ve been training on Saturday afternoons for the last three months so having that opportunity to get involved with a squad on a Saturday is something I’m going to relish."
Ajose was a summer signing from Peterborough, but manager turnover saw him fall out of favour, without really having much of a chance to prove himself.
At Crewe he joins a club bottom of League One, and will get the opportunity to start proving Leeds were wrong to push him aside so soon.
The former Manchester United youngster must have found it hugely demoralising to be on the training pitch on Saturdays while his teammates were at the grounds playing in front of fans, and realistically, it's hard to blame him for wanting to move on.
However the counter point to this, is whether Ajose gave up too quickly and did not show enough fight to turn it around at Leeds?
