Moussa Sissoko says that he is playing the best football of his career at this present moment in time.
The French midfielder has enjoyed a blistering spell of form, establishing himself as one of the key players in the Newcastle United line-up, and he admits that he has reached new levels.
Sissoko scored his first league goal of the season during the Mapgies' 1-0 win over Queens Park Rangers last weekend and it was reward for the standard of performances he has put in recently.
The former Toulouse midfielder has been one of the catalysts behind Newcastle's turnaround in form and even he admits that this is a spell which has been particularly enjoyable.
“Maybe this is the best football of my career, it's true at the moment ... I’m playing well and happy,” Sissoko told the Northern Echo. “I will try to continue like this. If we can finish in the top eight, it will be good for me and the team.
“It's too early to say whether we can finish fifth or sixth or seventh. We just try to get a lot of points. In the second part of the season, we will see where we can finish.”
Newcastle are currently occupying fifth position in the Premier League, which is a huge surprise considering their start to the campaign.
The Mapgies run of seven games without a win from the opening of the season had led many to tip them as relegation candidates, but they have quickly proven their critics wrong.
Newcastle have taken maximum points from their last five league fixtures and their rise up the table proves just how open the Premier League looks this season.
A number of teams are struggling for form and it is because of this that there is now talk of the possibility of Newcastle securing a European place this season.
Their immediate attention will simply be on extending their winning run, though, and they have a chance to do that this weekend when they take on West Ham United.
