Manchester United latest: Herrera 'fighting for future,' Giggs explains retirement

The latest Manchester United transfer news, views and rumours.

Ander Herrera

Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera is fighting for his Old Trafford future, according to the Daily Mirror.

It appears the Spaniard, who was signed this summer, is not highly rated by Louis van Gaal, suggesting that the bulk of the work done to sign him was indeed done under David Moyes or perhaps in between the time of his sacking and Van Gaal's appointment.

Man United are willing to listen to January offers for Herrera, states the report.

Ryan Giggs

Meanwhile, United assistant boss Ryan Giggs says last season's poor campaign had no bearing on his decision to retire as a player.

“I think, having done the (manager’s) job at the end of last season, that finally made up my mind to retire because I enjoyed it and I knew I was ready for the next step," he told the Daily Telegraph.

“I didn’t miss playing that much, so it helped, in that respect, to clearly make up my mind that I was ready to finish. The way last season went had nothing to do with it really.

“I’d had bad seasons and disappointing seasons before -- last year was bad, yes, but it had no influence on my decision whatsoever. It would have been nice to go out on a high, but that had no bearing on it really.
