Liverpool fans took to Twitter on Wednesday night to react to Simon Mignolet's display in the 2-2 Champions League draw at Ludogorets.

Liverpool were denied a first win in five matches in Wednesday’s Champions League clash at Ludogorets Razgrad, after a late equaliser earned the Bulgarian champions a 2-2 draw.

The hosts took the lead after just three minutes when Simon Mignolet spilled Fabio Espinho’s shot for Dani Abalo to capitalise, but Rickie Lambert headed in his first Champions League goal to equaliser five minutes later.

Jordan Henderson then steered the Reds in front in the 37th-minute with a cool finish from Raheem Sterling’s low cross, before Georgi Terziev denied them the three points two minutes from the end with a header from a set-piece.

Liverpool can still make it through to the knockout phase with a win against FC Basel in their final group game, but it was nevertheless another frustrating result for Brendan Rodgers' side.

That frustration was embodied in the performance of goalkeeper Mignolet, whose awful error on the opener heaped further pressure on his starting role, following what’s been a testing start to the season.

The Belgian international looked awful on crosses on the night and appeared shot of confidence, with club legend Bruce Grobbelaar’s recent comments on his lack of command now ringing even more true.

“I've always said that. I've said that he doesn't command his area,” the Zimbabwean told BBC Sport earlier this week.

“Yes, he’s a great shot-stopper, but I was slaughtered last year by Liverpool fans for being too harsh on him – I’m not being too harsh on him, not at all.

“I have likened to him worse than Dracula, because at least Dracula comes out of his coffin now and then. He seems to stay on his line and that's it.”

It’s doubtful Liverpool fans would slaughter him now, however, with the general sentiment on Twitter at the final whistle lacking much support for the former Sunderland number one.
