Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes that Everton have a better chance of making it into the top four of the Premier League than Tottenham Hotspur.
Tottenham will take on Everton at White Hart Lane in the Premier League on Sunday.
Both teams are fighting for a place in the top four and both have struggled so far this campaign, but the advantage is with the Toffees, claims Carragher.
“I think Everton,” he told Sky Sports when asked who he would back at this point. “They have a better balanced side and have impressed me a bit more.
"Pochettino is still trying to find his best team, trying to find out about players, and they have had a couple of fortuitous wins recently in terms of teams they were playing against going down to 10 men.
“It should be a good game but I think, over the whole season, Everton may just have the edge. They seem to have a settled squad, Roberto Martinez knows the squad from last season and is aware of what they did, but there's very little in it.”
Carragher does have a point about Everton being a settled side. Last season Roberto Martinez’s team came very close, and one would expect them to keep the fight until the final weeks of the season at least.
Although things are not going according to plan for Tottenham at the moment, one has to back manager Mauricio Pochettino to turn things around in due time.
The positive for Tottenham (and Everton) is that other teams in the race for the top four are not doing well either. Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool have all been largely disappointing so far.
Perhaps in the end it will be a case of the best of a bad bunch that get the third and fourth positions in the Premier League table…
