West Ham United defender James Collins says that manager Sam Allardyce wants the team to bounce back from the defeat to Everton in the Premier League.

West Ham United defender James Collins has revealed that there was a team meeting on Tuesday.

The Hammers have suffered a dip in form in recent weeks and have yet to win in the Premier League this month.

Sam Allardyce’s side were held to a 2-2 draw away at Stoke City and then played out a goalless draw with Aston Villa at home, before going down 2-1 to Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday.

It was West Ham’s first defeat in six games and saw them slip down to fifth in the league table, a point and a place behind Newcastle United.

Newcastle will be the London outfit’s next opponents, and it appears that the West Ham players are determined to return to winning ways.

“Definitely,” Collins told West Ham’s official website when asked if it is important to win at the Boleyn Ground on Saturday.

“We had a meeting on Tuesday and the gaffer said the same. We were lucky to get a point at Stoke after being 2-0 down, then everyone knows we should have beaten Villa.

“Then to lose on Saturday was disappointing, but the home form has been great. Hopefully we can get a few of the lads who were injured back and we can have a real good go at Newcastle."

It will not be easy for West Ham to pick up all three points against Newcastle despite being the home team.

Alan Pardew’s side have won their last six games in all competitions and are high on confidence; they have also not conceded in their last four matches.

West Ham are suffering from injuries as well, and it will be a real test of the players’ characters on Saturday.
