Manchester United latest: Giggs makes surprising claim about Phil Neville

The latest Manchester United transfer news, views and rumours.

Phil Neville

Manchester United assistant coach Ryan Giggs has hailed Phil Neville's coaching abilities despite a troubled spell at Old Trafford.

Neville worked on United's backroom staff during David Moyes' unsuccessful reign at the club and has since received plenty of criticism for his often less-than-analytical appearances on Match of the Day.

Giggs, however, believes Neville is a knowledgeable and natural coach and says it is a 'shame' he is not still with United.

”Phil did really well in his first year, obviously people might say the team didn’t do well," Giggs said.

"But actually going out onto the pitch he’s so enthusiastic, so knowledgable and he’s a real natural coach. It’s a shame he’s not doing that [coaching at Man United.]”

Reece James

In other Manchester United news, youngster Reece James has been allowed to join Rotherham United on an Emergency Loan deal.

"Young Reece is a player who I have watched develop at Manchester United over the last two or three years," Rotheram boss Steve Evans said. "He is an outstanding young left-back or indeed can be utilised further forward as and when needed."

Jonny Evans

Another Evans, meanwhile, (United defender Jonny Evans) has given his reaction to his injury comeback for United's reserve side against Blackburn Rovers.

“It's nice to get 60-odd minutes under my belt," Evans told MUTV. "It's been a long time coming.

“I didn't expect to be out this long so I'm pleased to get some minutes. I thought the lads played well and it was an enjoyable game to be part of. “
