Manchester City player ratings v Bayern: Aguero and Lampard star

Manchester City Etihad

Hat-trick hero Sergio Aguero earned a 3-2 win over 10-man Bayern Munich to keep Manchester City's Champions League hopes alive.

Joe Hart 5/10 – At fault for both goals. Wrong-footed on Xabi Alonso’s 40th-minute free-kick, before finding himself out of position for Robert Lewandowski’s header five minutes later. Not a night he will want to remember.

Bacary Sagna 6/10 – Deputised well for Zabaleta both in attack and defence, but allowed Lewandowksi to beat him for the second goal.

Vincent Kompany 6/10 – Had the upper hand on Lewandowski for most of the game, but lost him in the lead-up to the second.

Eliaquim Mangala 6/10 – Looked much more comfortable than in recent weeks with a number of impressive blocks and interceptions. Did concede the foul which led to Alonso’s equaliser, though.

Gael Clichy 5.5/10 – Kept Arjen Robben on his toes with his willingness to get forward, but was a weak link in defence, and should have closed down the cross for the second.

James Milner 6.5/10 – Typically full of running, but his job was made much easier when Bayern went down to 10 men after just 20 minutes following Mehdi Benatia’s sending off, allowing him some good spells of possession.

Fernando 6/10 – A solid outing for the Brazilian as he did what was required, sitting deep to disrupt the opposition’s imposing passing game.

Jesus Navas 7/10 – A real threat on the flank, giving compatriot Juan Bernant a number of problems over the course of the 90 minutes. The end product was lacking, though.

Frank Lampard 8/10 – City’s star man after Aguero, ensuring the suspended Yaya Toure wasn’t missed as much as anticipated with an inspired performance.

Samir Nasri 5.5/10 – Far too wasteful in possession, despite providing a few bright moments. Looks to still be struggling a bit with his fitness.

Sergio Aguero 9.5/10 – The man of the moment. Outstanding. Where would Manuel Pellegrini’s side be without him?

SUBSTITUTES

Stefan Jovetic (Milner 66) 7.5/10 – Provided a real spark upon entering the game, delivering two assists into Aguero’s path to shape the miraculous comeback.

Pablo Zabaleta (Sagna 68) 6/10 – A like-for-like replacement for Sagna.

Martin Demichelis (Aguero 90) N/A – Brought on to shore things up at the death.
